I have many years of expertise, both in Europe and the United States, working closely with writers as a script editor and script consultant, and screenwriting teacher.

 

What I offer is not simply an in-depth analysis of your work, but also a road map for taking it forward to the next draft.  My focus is not on criticism, but on problem-solving.  I will offer solutions where necessary, but I prefer to work with you to define the deeper meaning of your story, and then to help you to shape it in such a way that it can reach the largest audience possible.

Here's how it works.  You send me your script, along with a payment to Paypal.  I will analyse it thoroughly - usually several times.  I will then spend a couple of hours with you, either in person, on Skype, or on the phone, going through it with you and planning the next steps.

 

As an alternative, I can provide detailed, written notes, but personally I find I can impart a lot more information directly (as well as making sure you understand it).  Also, head-to-head conversations provide much more opportunity for creative brainstorming.

I regularly provide script consultation for production companies.  This service tends to be much more in-depth and detailed than individual consultations.

 

This service can be provided at any stage of the development process.  I am an expert at helping you find the right form for your ideas (see my course on 'Maverick Screenwriting'), and helping you grow good ideas into great scripts.  I can also advise on finding the right writer for your project.

 

As a script consultant, however, I am most often brought in to solve problems.  This means providing an in-depth analysis of the script as it stands, then working closely with the writer to shepherd it through the next draft.  This will not only involve a set of notes at the outset, but usually several meetings with the writer through a series of revisions.

 

Sometimes, projects fall at the final hurdle because they're just not good enough to stand out from the crowd.  Expert script consultation can help you transform the merely 'good' script into a really 'hot' or 'production-ready' script.  This often involves detailed, beat-by-beat work on the individual scenes.

 

As a script consultant, my job is to develop the script to best serve the goals and priorities of the producer.  I am there to help you get on with what you do best - produce.  While it is important to provide an objective perspective, I never forget that I am being hired to serve your goals.
