Screenwriting Seminars
Testimonials
I believe screenwriting is a craft that can be taught.  But in order to learn it, you have to understand the unique language of cinema.

My courses teach you to be a visual storyteller whose stories reflect our deepest needs and fears, and whose characters resonate with our own experience of the world.  No matter what your genre, you have to offer your audience a visceral and stunning experience.

Check out my screenwriting articles to get a sense of my approach.  These are written for a general audience - but in my courses we get into the detail.  We get right to the heart of the matter.  I teach you the principles, then I show you how the pros do it.  Then I make sure you can do it yourself.

In 2008 I presented my 'Maverick Screenwriting' seminar in association with Raindance for the first time.  If you want to break out of the box; if you want to write movies that don't require big budgets, big stars, and which get you noticed - this is the course for you.  Watch out for this seminar taught in the UK and internationally in 2009.

I continue to teach my Beginners Screenwriting and Intermediate Screenwriting courses at Central St. Martin's, University of the Arts.   For a detailed description of the courses, and where to apply, clickhere

For those who have graduated from the first two courses, or who are seriously engaged in writing a feature-length script, and who meet my own standards, I offer Advanced Screenwriting seminars, which I teach independently.  Here there is a greater emphasis on group interaction, and in ensuring that you get plenty of in-depth feedback.  In addition, I will be showing you how to improve the marketability of your script.  Click here for more details.

Don't start writing your screenplay without a map: in March 2009 I ran my Beat Sheet workshop for the first time.  Following this sell-out event, I will be running this event again soon.  In the meantime, read my thoughts on the value of writing a beat sheet here.
How brilliant your Maverick Screenwriting course was.  I've done a few now, and they've been interesting, but didn't really hit the nail on the head.  Yours really hit the nail on the head.
Jayne Marar

I can hardly recall a moment when I've been learning like this and enjoying it so much at the same time (maybe ice skating when I was 4).
John Hale

I really enjoyed the course and I'm looking at films - I know this is going to sound cheesy, but I'm saying it anyway - as if for the first time.
David Lennon

What I have learned has crystalized and clarified so many aspects of storycraft and given me the confidence that I do 'get it'' and can 'do it' and 'will succeed' as long as I just keep at it.
Rene Wells

I loved your course so much - yet it has only enhanced my enjoyment of watching films - which is pretty incredible when I consider how fearful I am of analysis blowing away the magic.
Sharon Kendrick

I plainly and simply enjoy your classes so much.  I love the feeling of leaving the classroom with my head pounding with information and all kinds of ideas.  I now feel the possibilities are endless, that it's something worth getting really excited about.
Madeleine Wilson

Thank you very much for all your insight and amazing knowledge.  Many people have good understanding of a subject; but imparting it to someone else in such a precise and understandable way is a gift.
